Welcome to the first post of Sheldon’s First Home
Renovation. My plan is to keep a log of
everything I do with my new home as far as renovations are concerned and how I
completed the project. First off, a
little background about me and this home.
I have worked in the Student Housing field for almost 9 years now and a
perk with that job is you are almost always provided a place to live for
free. This has been my case so I have
never had a place of my own. I have
lived in a room in college that was literally smaller than a jail cell in the
state of Colorado, all the way to the luxury two bedroom apartment I currently
live in. Starting June 1st I
will be moving into my 5 bedroom 4 bathroom home so I may have problems
figuring out what to do with all the space! Along with being provided an
apartment, it comes fully furnished. I
may be ready to move but all I own is a headboard, an entertainment center, and
a couch. I will actually need to buy a
bed this weekend.
I purchased this home
my Senior year of college as a Short Sale and planned to use it as a
rental. Two months later I moved to
Oklahoma State University to get my master’s degree and spent three years there
working in student housing. I have been
back in Denver for two years now working in privatized Student Housing (not
part of a Univerisity), but have continued to rent the home to other families. I recently decided that now is the time for
me to move off-site so I will be moving back into the home. I really like working in student housing but
living in the same building with 355 students (that can be quite wild at times)
is getting a little old.
So here it is; The Home that I am moving to and will be
renovating.
Obviously the house is a little dated so here is an idea of
what I plan to do on the home. The first
project will focus on the exterior and will be completely overhauled. My plan is that the house will look
completely different than what it does now and will take on more of a colonial
look. All of the fitzer bushes will be
removed in the next couple weeks. The
plan includes the exterior being painted a new color. Right now I am thinking a Greenish grey color
with white trim but it is still being decided. I have to choose a color that
will match the roof and since it is brown it limits my options. New
columns will be added to the front of the house and rock will be added to the
front of the columns.
Below is a home I am looking to model the columns off of and
the dry sage is an option for the color but right now I am leaning towards
something with a darker grey/brown tint.
Well stay tuned for the progress as I work to create an
awesome home. Move-in day is less than a
week away!!
